It still boggles my mind that the often-overpriced products in stores so frequently have a laundry list of synthetic ingredients (many of which are possibly harmful) when it's so easy to make a long-lasting natural product with very few ingredients. Today, I'm sharing one of my all-time favorite recipes for a healing salve. In case you are wondering what on earth a healing salve is, I will tell you that it's something that can go on pretty much anything: cuts, burns, dry skin, rashes, split ends, cracked feet, eczema, baby bums and more! There are several expensive products on the market, but at the end of the day, nothing has compared to my simple salve recipe.
2 tbsp beeswax pellets (organic)
1/4 cup organic and unrefined mango butter or a chunk the size of a plum (substitute shea butter or cocoa butter if desired)
1/4 cup organic, cold-pressed and unrefined coconut oil
1 tsp vitamin E oil or Sunflower Oil (optional)
30 drops of the Essential Oils or oil blends of your personal choice; I recommend these skin-lovers: Lavender, Frankincense, Myrrh, Tea Tree, Melrose Blend, Gentle Baby Blend, Rosemary, Lemongrass, Cedarwood, Carrot Seed, Patchouli etc.
Directions: Completely melt everything with the exception of the essential oils, in a glass bowl or measuring cup, using a double boiler or steamer (much easier to clean than melting in an actual pot and the ingredients will retain more nutrients than if you melt them in a microwave). Remove from heat, add your essential oil or blend of choice, stir for another few seconds, and begin filling your 4 oz tins (should yield two). Let them set at room temperature or put them in the refrigerator for a quick set.
