Who doesn't love the smell and feel of clean, right-out-of-the-dryer, laundry?! Exactly. So, I hate to spoil the fun, but would you like to know what’s in your dryer sheets and fabric softeners? I’m going to try to keep this short and sweet (and I mean REALLY sweet!) so you don’t nod off before you get to the best part. Downy Fabric Softener contains 12 ingredients, including “fragrance”, diethyl ester dimethyl ammonium chloride, ammonium chloride, calcium chloride, formic acid, Polydimethylsiloxane, Liquitint Blue, Benzisothiazolinone, diethylenetriamine pentaacetate sodium salt… yada, yada, what is all this stuff?! I researched several of those big words and they are used for a variety of reasons – preservatives, dyes, fragrances – and I’ve decided that all of these little changes in my everyday life, are seriously reducing the level of our “organ toxicity” since several of these ingredients are listed as “moderately concerning due to organ toxicity” by the EPA. I translate that to mean that our organs will hold on to these toxins, especially if we use these products frequently (daily) and I don’t know about you, but I don’t like the sound of this “organ toxicity”. It's a mission of mine to clean out our bodies and start healing the damage, and this is an inexpensive, simple and uplifting way to start!! Our Fabric Softener/Dryer Sheet Alternative: 100% Sheep’s Wool Dryer Balls -- 6pk (use 3 balls for a small load and 6 for larger loads) Young Living Essential Oils (For 100% Pure Therapeutic Grade Plant & Herb aroma with bacteria-fighting constituents instead of that synthetic fragrance stuff that just masks odors -- beware of other brands and their misleading labeling practices. Many are labeled "Pure" but are mostly synthetic fragrance and fillers) Simply place 1 drop of your choice of essential oil, on each dryer ball (My personal favorite right now is Lemon Myrtle. It's SUPER strong so you really only need a couple drops and it should last for a few loads at a time. Some other great options include Young Living's Purification, Lemongrass, Citrus Fresh, Lavender, or Joy Essential Oil Singles and Blends) Price Comparison: Downy Dryer Sheets = $6.00 for 120 loads Wool Dryer Balls = $12 (3 balls) - $16 (6 balls) for 1,000+ loads (BOOM!) ***Bonus: You can peg your husband in the noggin with a wool ball if he doesn’t help you fold the laundry. No other fabric softener is that versatile ;) Related Topics:
